Restaurant review: Eten Sheffield

I was happy when this little gem approached me (via twitter, ha!) and told me they did gluten-free grub! I had to go and check it out. It’s just in Sheffield city centre, but is quite hidden down a side road (East Parade). But it was nice when we got there, the place had a warm, rustic and welcoming feel.

This is a michelin star restaurant that I would only ever eat at on a special occasion as it is definitely out of my budget (being a student and all)! The reason we attended this restaurant is because they hosted a Coeliac awareness dinner! WOW! A 5-course meal ALL gluten free? Well how could I turn that down!?

When I found this place, I was really excited. Firstly, the outside is pink (not relevant, but it is to me!) and it’s a little cafe behind Ecclesall road, which I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t on a major food hunt.

Fancie. Sheffield!

I have been busy with University, getting wrapped up in the hard graft of third year (still making time for cake and tea, and the occasional cocktail or two of course!) and forgetting to Blog!

But if I’m going to look at a computer screen all day, I think I can spare 10 mins to get blogging!

Rightyho,

With being Coeliac I struggle a lot finding good places to eat. But nowadays, going ‘gluten-free’ has become increasingly popular. The stylised ‘gluten-free’ diet, taken on board by celebs such as Victoria Beckham and Miley Cyrus is now relished by restaurants and cafes who cater for us wheat-free people!

The awareness is growing, and that means the food is getting better. I can hardly tell with certain foods that they contain no wheat, as local cafes excel with providing exciting options that I can eat.

Especially cake.

More beauties!

And more!

I love the variety of colours and flavours here with the cakes, and the decor is lovely too. Wooden stools, little tea cups and plates, its a cross between a vintage tea room and a laid-back rustic place to just hang out, and eat cake.

More good gluten-free grub!

Let me tell you about this other delightful place in Sheffield. It’s called XenophilyCafe, a Syrian/Turkish cafe that is so cosy! It has a pretty interior, with my favourite site being the cakes!
It caters for Coeliac, Vegan and Halal.

Brunch time! Who doesn’t love a poached egg with some Hollondaise sauce on some smoked salmon!? I love it! And it was on gluten-free bread, which is always a plus!

Followed by a gluten-free brownie, with a deliciously moist centre, with a cup of tea (of course.) I’ve been here a ridiculous amount of times, and there will probably be a lot more pictures to come when I’m back in Sheffield!:)

A gorgeous day in the Steel city and where better to go for a light brunch. I spotted this place on Ecclesall road, which is thriving with business (lots of great places to eat!) and spotted Fancie.

The pink writing on the outside and pastel colours drew me in as did the little seats outside. We went in and it was just my kind of place! Wooden floors and rustic tabletops with cute vintage accessories giving the place an authentic cutesy vibe.

Me being me, I ordered a cup of tea (it is my SAVIOUR and favorite beverage) and I got it in this amazing teapot! I am obsessed with different types of tea, and this was a loose leaf one in this beautiful pot!

Brunch Time!

Being Coeliac means I can’t eat wheat, which is found in bread, pasta, cakes, pastries, etc; basically anything with flour in it, so it is hard!

But, I can have most salads so I chose this Salmon and avocado one and it was delicious! The salmon was so tender and honey-glazed; perfection I say!

Cupcake time! I couldn’t resist, and I was so happy to find that they do have gluten free cupcakes! I chose this Victorian sponge cupcake, and it had jam in the middle and butter cream on top. It was amazing!

I can’t wait to go back.
